A Single System Image Server Cluster using Duplicated MAC and IP Addresses

چکیده
Clusters of PC’s are increasingly being used to build high-capacity web sites. We develop and evaluate a method of building a Single System Image (SSI) cluster that does not require a central dispatcher. In our Clone Cluster method, which builds on the existing ONE-IP method, a group of mirrored server machines with identical MAC and IP addresses are configured on a shared-medium LAN. Each machine filters incoming IP packets based on a hash of IP source addresses. Unlike ONE-IP, our method does not require router configuration changes. We build and evaluate a Linuxbased, two-PC cluster that uses an odd/even filter. Simulation results show that the effect of server selection method on mean response time is less significant for heavy-tailed interarrival times than for exponential interarrival times. Simulation results show that response time performance from a Clone Cluster can be very close to that of a centrally dispatched least-loaded cluster.

A NEW DYNAMIC-AUTO-STATIC TECHNIQUE FOR DHCPv4 IP ADDRESS ALLOCATION
One feature of Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers is the ability to assign static (fixed) IP Addresses for well-known clients in the Local Area Network (LAN) based on their Medium Access Control (MAC) addresses. This typically involves manual intervention by the network administrator to enter the correct MAC address and IP address information into the DHCP server configuration f...
متن کاملMulticast-Based Distributed LVS (MD-LVS) for Improving Scalability and Availability
Clustering with a single -system image view is the most commonly used approach to increase throughput of a Web site. There are two types of clustering architecture: centralized IP cluster and distributed IP cluster. In centralized IP cluster, Load Balancer distributes incoming requests of clients to an appropriate Real Server based on load characteristics. However, the availability and scalabil...
متن کاملA High-Availability Architecture for the Dynamic Domain Name System
The Domain Name System (DNS) provides a mapping between host names and Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Hosts that are configured using the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) can have their assigned IP addresses updated in a Dynamic DNS (DDNS). DNS and DDNS are critical components of the Internet. Most applications use host names rather than IP addresses, allowing the underlying operat...
متن کاملA Cluster-Based Parallel Face Recognition System
The objective of content-based face recognition is to efficiently find and retrieve face images from the database that satisfy the criteria of similarity to the user's query face image. When the database is large and the face image features are complex, the exhaustive search of the database and computation of the face image similarities is not expedient. We use clusters to accelerate the face f...
متن کاملDecentralized Deduplication in SAN Cluster File Systems
File systems hosting virtual machines typically contain many duplicated blocks of data resulting in wasted storage space and increased storage array cache footprint. Deduplication addresses these problems by storing a single instance of each unique data block and sharing it between all original sources of that data. While deduplication is well understood for file systems with a centralized comp...
